Your son has just recently turned sixteen. He wants to get a summer job and knows that most employers will ask him for his social insurance number. He asks you to pick up an application form for him at the local Canada Employment Centre.
A: I’d like to pick up an application for a Social Insurance Number for my son.
B: What’s the date of his birth?
A: He was born on July 1st, 1996
B: Has he ever had an S.I.N. card before?
A: No, this is the first time he’s ever applied.
B: Here’s an application and a brochure that explains all the details. Tell your son to fill out the application and bring it back. Make sure he brings in the other documents listed in the brochure as well.
A: How long will it take before he gets his card?
B: He’ll probably receive it in 3 to 4 weeks through the mail.
