趙 Sir：以下兩個句子，你認為哪句是對的？哪句是錯的？
1. When will you arrive New York?
2. When will you arrive in New York?
Paul：第一句錯，第二句對。因為 arrive（抵達）毋須 object（賓語）。
趙 Sir：New York須用in這個preposition（介系詞）。那麼 Ocean Park 是否也用 in 呢？
Paul：Ocean Park 是「海洋公園」，公園、大廈等地方只可用 at，因此，可說：
When will you arrive at Ocean Park?
When will you arrive at the Prince Building?
趙 Sir：完全正確！剛才你說 arrive 毋須 object，其實那又未必。試看以下兩句，哪句是對的？
1. When he arrived home, his wife had the meal ready.
2. When he arrived at home, his wife had the meal ready.
Paul：這個……這個似乎第一句對，第二句錯。為什麼會這樣呢？不是 arrive 之後須用介系詞嗎？
趙 Sir：這便是英文易學難精之處。易學，因為英文有一套完整文法；難精，因為有很多exceptions（例外）。
Paul：為什麼有這些 exceptions ？
趙 Sir：因 為 語 言 是「 約 定 俗 成 」（common usage），凌駕於文法（grammar）之上。
試在以下橫線上填上介系詞 at、in 或不用 （X）：
1. What decision did you finally arrive _____? （你們最後做了什麼決定？）

Mission
任務、受他人委託的工作，英文名詞 便是 Baby Blues 漫畫中的 mission。「完 成」任務，最常用的動詞是 accomplish，而漫畫中 的一句是很常見的：Mission accomplished（任務 已完成）。
又例如：Her mission accomplished, she immediately flew to London to spend a holiday with her parents（她任務完成後，便立即飛往倫敦，跟 她的父母共度假期）。
「完成」任務的另一常用動詞是 complete， 例 如：He thought he could accomplish / complete his mission in a week, but eventually it took him over three months（他以為自己可以在一個星期內完成他 的任務，但最終用上了他三個多月時間）。
任務「成功」，最簡單的動詞是 succeed，但 也 常 說 作 be a success， 例 如：The secret mission succeeded / was a success（那項秘密任務成功了）。 那麽任務「失敗」呢？動詞固然可用簡單的 fail， 但也常說作 end in failure，例如：Unfortunately, the dangerous mission failed / ended in failure, and three people died（很不幸，那個危險的任務以失敗告終， 並有三人死去）。
