今天,中国深圳科学家贺建奎宣布,一对名为露露和娜娜的基因编辑婴儿本月已经在中国平安出生。这是世界上第一例基因编辑婴儿。
贺建奎声称,这对婴儿接受的基因编辑可以帮助她们抵抗艾滋病毒感染。然而,据美联社报道,这一说法未经科学验证,也没有学术期刊发表过能够支持该声明的证据。
此事不仅在中国引起轩然大波,国外的各大媒体、科学家以及网友也纷纷表示质疑。
美联社华裔记者Andrew Peng表示,这种基因编辑目前在美国是被禁止的,原因是DNA的修改可以传递到下一代,可能还会危害到其它的基因。
绝大多数科学家也认为这一技术极为不安全,不应该尝试,参与者是否真的完全明白此事利弊还有待查询。
更有科学家直接谴责,中国这是在做人体试验,而人体试验在道德伦理上是得不到拥护的。

进化基因学家兼虫生物学家Patrick Phillips说,此事最关键的因素是,他们为了创造抵抗疾病的“超级婴儿”而修改基因,而不是治疗一种基因疾病。这里不存在医疗必要性,这比大多数普通人认为的“可行”领先了一步。
Still, a critical element here is that this is still making a “super baby” that is disease resistant rather than curing a specific genetic disease (eg CF). There is no medical necessity here. This is already one step beyond what most lay people think is a clear ok use.

Phillips进一步解释道:“当我们谈论将基因编辑运用到人身上时,绝大多数人觉得,为了治疗镰形红细胞病而修改基因是可行的。但如果是修改身高、肌肉质量等方面,人们就会感到不舒服。”
对于Phillips的说法,基因学家Razib Khan不尽认同。他说,身高是由许多基因控制影响的,编辑身高相关的基因风险很大。但消除穿透力高的疾病相关的基因,应该是我们最值得、最迫切需要做的事。
hm. well stature is so polygenic. we’ll see. this stuff is exponential. but i think zapping high penetrance disease stuff is priority #1 and will be for while.

虽然个别科学家支持基因编辑婴儿,但许多网友还是认为,“让婴儿承担你无法预知的结果是残忍的。”
网友JoanofArt说:“对这对婴儿可能是危险的……她们今后怎么办?难道要往自己身体里注射病毒,看看基因编辑成不成功吗?”
Should be banned if not……cruel…. especially when you cannot predict results. Could be dangerous to those twin babies…..what they going to do next,???? Inject diseases to find out it worked???

还有网友从生物进化论的角度进行反驳:“我可以预见,在这种技术影响下,产生一种超级虫子,所有未经基因编辑的普通人都会被这种虫子弄死。”
但网友Albert却说:“所有事物都可能有副作用,包括预防针也一样。这并不意味着我们应该禁止使用这些技术。”
Anything can have negative side effects, including vaccines etc. That doesn’t mean it should be banned.
