加拿大衛生部宣布，擴大回收消毒洗手液的範圍，且列出45種含有工業乙醇，須回收的洗手液產品。
衛生部於6月6日首次公布須回收消毒洗手液，因為這些洗手液含有不可接受的工業用乙醇。
該部門表示，回收的消毒洗手液，含有工業用乙醇，亦可能含有雜質及未經批准的化學物，人體不適合使用。
衛生部於7月及8月不斷進行更新，最終宣布要回收45種消毒洗手液。
衛生部表示，使用這些產品，可能會令人感到皮膚乾燥、刺激或開裂，刺憿眼睛，上呼吸道受刺激及頭痛。
