6月10日，英國議會下議院的科技委員會在當天下午就英國電信基礎設施建設舉行聽證會。
華為全球網絡安全和隱私官約翰·薩福克（John Suffolk）在聽證會上就華為設備的安全性及其與政府的關聯性等問題，向英國科技委員做出解答。

面對來自英國議會連珠炮似的質詢，約翰·薩福克從容對答。表示華為從未被中國或其他任何國家的政府要求「進行任何不當行為」看視頻↓↓↓
面對諸多偏見和略顯刁鑽的問題，薩福克的回應頗為可圈可點：
薩福克表示，華為致力於提升透明度：我們對世界坦誠相待（We stand naked in front of the world）。
From our perspective, we believe in complete openness and transparency. We want people to find things. It doesn』t matter whether they find one or 100. We are not embarrassed by what people find, whether it』s poor coding or poor engineering.
對我們來講，華為主張完全的公開與透明，我們歡迎大家來找問題，不論是一個問題還是一百個問題都不要緊。我們不會因為大家發現了問題而難堪。就像有人之前提到我們的代碼與工程存在問題一樣。
We stand naked in front of the world. It may not be a pretty sight all the time, but we prefer that to hiding things. Because it enables us to improve our products, it benefits us.
我們對世界坦誠相待。我們不可能一直都是完美的，但我們還是希望能開誠布公，這可以促使我們提升產品，這對大家都有益。
We don’t run networks; we provide equipment to the telecommunication operators, so they run the network. So we have no access to any of the data that is transmitted across that network.
我們不負責運營網絡，我們只為網絡運營商提供設備，運營商們來運營網絡。因此我們無法獲取通過他們網絡傳輸的數據。
So what does telecommunication do? It connects you with a base station wherever you are, in order to connect you to the network. And therefore, it does know where you are because it knows where the information is coming from.
你想一想電信通訊是做什麼的就知道了。無論你身在何處，它會將你同附近的基站連接，從而使你與網絡連接。因此它能夠獲取你的位置信息，因為它知道你的數據是從什麼地方傳輸的。
So that way, telecommunications network from all vendors know your location is because they connect you to the network. There is no difference between Huawei’s equipment and anybody else’s equipment.
從這種邏輯上講，所有運營商都能追蹤到你的位置信息。在這個問題上，華為的設備與其他公司的設備並無二致。
Currently, Huawei manufactures only 30 percent of its products and accessories, while the rest are made through global chains. We regularly inspect the global chains by taking apart and inspecting the products manufactured by them.
在華為的產品中，只有30%的組件是華為自家生產的。其餘來自全球的供應鏈。我們通過將工廠送來的組件拆開檢查來監控供應鏈。
At Huawei, there』s segregating of work, so one person doesn’t have access to all of the products. We do not provide free rein to engineers. We manage and control each part of the process. Cyber Security Evaluation Center is one of those controls.
我們建立職責劃分制，因此一個人不可能擁有所有產品的權限。我們也限制工程師的權限。因此無論我們在哪裡參與這個進程，我們都要對其建立管控機制。網絡安全評估中心也是管控機制的一部分。
約翰·薩福克（John Suffolk）應對英國議會質詢的精彩表現成功吸引了中國網友的注意。
不少網友發現，這位不卑不亢為華為辯護的英國大爺竟曾供職於英國政府。
的確，約翰·薩福克大有來頭，曾擔任英國政府的首席信息官，於2011年加入華為。
John Suffolk, former chief information officer (CIO) for the British government, joined China-based IT company Huawei as global head of cybersecurity in 2011. 約翰·薩福克是前英國政府首席信息官，於2011加入中國IT公司華為，擔任全球網絡安全主管。
據報道，華為在拓展其在發達國家的市場時，總是面臨著來自這些國家的不斷審查，於是設立了全球網絡安全主管一職。薩福克也是華為首個全球網絡安全和隱私官，直接向公司總裁任正非彙報工作。
當時華為曾表示：「薩福克的職責將包括監測和改善公司全球供應鏈的信息安全。」
