Sophia Bao, a grade 12 student, was diagnosed with mild to moderate sensorineural hearing loss at birth and received hearing aids at four. Fluent in three languages, she was exposed to various cultures and supported by her family. Having spent much of her childhood in hospitals and audiologist offices, Sophia developed an interest in medical devices and technology. She decided to pursue coding, engineering, and biology with the goal of creating medical devices. One of her proudest achievements is developing a hearing loss simulator to help promote empathy within the community and its supporters. In her free time, Sophia enjoys reading, playing video games, and snowboarding.
