温哥华岛东面加布奥拉岛(Gabriola Island)于12月10日星期二傍晚6时左右发生小型飞机坠毁空难，造成3人死亡，有报道指，其中一名死者是该双引擎飞机机师巴尔森(Alex Bahlsen)。不过，卑诗法医服务署在周五发出的声明只证实3名死者为两男一女，其中一名男死者60多岁，来自Mill Bay，未公布各人身份。
此外，加拿大运输部周五公布的初步报告指，坠机原因与机上器材失效有关。
加布奥拉岛人口约4,000，由温哥华岛那乃磨(Nanaimo)乘渡轮到该岛需时约20分钟。
