英國發現傳染力超強的新冠病毒株後，荷蘭、丹麥、澳洲也發現這種變種病毒。世界衛生組織（WHO）表示，正就變種病毒與英國官員密切聯繫，呼籲歐洲各國加強防疫措施。

世衛組織報告稱，源自英國的開始在在世界各地傳播，丹麥、荷蘭和澳洲都發現了這種變種。世衛組織專家瑪麗亞．范．科霍夫作出了上述表示。

范．科霍夫說，在英國東南部發現了一種新型冠狀病毒，這種病毒之後開始在其他國家傳播。「我們不斷地看到檢測到了新型冠狀病毒變種。重要的是要研究它們，看它們是如何傳播的，以及它們會帶來什麼後果。」

2月19日，英國新發呼吸道病毒威脅諮詢小組證實，在該國發現的新型冠狀病毒正在快速傳播，要求居民更加小心。英國科學家指出，新病毒在遺傳物質上與普通病毒有23個不同處，過去一周的新增病例中，近60%是這種新毒株。
